This pocket watch was made by the DENT company and has clear hallmarks for London 1891

Dent & Co was established in 1814 by Edward J Dent and made pocket watches and clocks. The piece that Dent is most famous for is the clock movement within the Great clock for the houses of parliament or Big Ben as it is better known. The Dent trademark continued into the twentieth century as a trade mark of excellence.

Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and is jewelled throughout. The movement is signed “Dent, Watchmaker to the Queen, 33 Cockspur Street, London, No 30901”. The movement is in 99% mint condition – practically flawless.

Case – the movement comes in a top quality English silver full hunter case, which has a hinged inner, back cover and front cover. The front cover pops open to around 45 degrees when you press the winder in and then needs to be lifted open to the full 90.

The case has gold hinges and a gold thumb piece and makers marks for FT

The case has a circle on the front cover engraved with an A and “Holdenby House”. The rest of the case has engine turning with a smooth plain finish on the sides. The case is in 90% mint condition – light wear only

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “Dent, 33 Cockspur St, London”.

The dial is in 100% mint condition

The watch measures 50mm wide x 13mm deep
